"I write about relationships, starting with the one I have with myself."
After a voyage of self-discovery, Samsera has emerged in New York City with a singular writing voice and a singing voice that is sultry, silky and powerful.
A classically trained musician, Samsera grew up surrounded by her mum's love of Abba, her Dad's respect for classical Indian singing and her uncle’s enthusiasm for David Bowie. Born and raised in London, she began perfoming at the age of 6 and composed her first songs at the age of 8. When the scene started buzzing with the sounds of Talvin Singh and Asian Dub Foundation, Samsera grabbed the mic and sang out. Being at the epicenter of this richly creative multi-cultural environment fueled her passion for blending eastern and western influences into a unique musical style rich in texture and nuance.
Conversational yet deeply felt, Samsera’s lyrics are marked by the honesty with which she delves into the emotions of a woman discovering herself. Torn between the need for love and the need to stand on her own two feet she has matured into a thoroughly modern writer and performer. At times naïve and vulnerable, at other times courageous and strong, Samsera stands with a proud line of women performers – Madonna, Annie Lennox, Joni Mitchell, Lata Mangeshkar - who chronicle their fantasies, heartbreaks and joys with honesty and a keen eye to detail. Songs like “I Feel You” and After You Call” are sung from the heart proudly, with strength and beauty. Her new EP, "The Samsera Project," is an alluring glimmer of what’s to come.
